TEXANS CAN! Cars teamed up with the River Oaks Police Department, H&R Automotive and ABC Wrecker Services in an effort to enhance the City of River Oaks and the lives of the kids at the Can! Academies.

During the River Oaks Police Department Junked Car Round Up held Aug. 9, code enforcement and police officers drove up and down the city’s residential streets in search of vehicles deemed to be junked by city ordinance.

A junked vehicle is one where one or both of the stickers are expired, vehicle is wrecked, dismantled, partially dismantled, discarded or remains inoperable for more than 30 days.

If such a vehicle was found, residents were given the option to avoid fines and penalties associated with the removal of junked vehicles by donating their vehicle to the kids at the Can! Academies.

City officials contacted the owners of nearly 70 junked vehicles during the drive and Interim City Administrator Marvin Gregory hopes to contact even more through future round ups.

“This round up helped to get the vehicles moved and clean up our city,” Gregory said. “Most importantly, we were able to get out some valuable information to people who may not have been aware of TEXANS CAN!.”

Gregory stated he is looking forward to future operations with TEXANS CAN! and hopes the round ups become a regular occurrence in the city.
